What is a Mario Hat
The Mario Hat is the most distinctive part of Mario’s clothing. The unique hat is red and has a “M” symbol on it. Except the Dr. Mario games, this hat has appeared in every game featuring Mario . Ever since he was a baby, Mario has worn the same hat . 
History of the Mario Hat
When Shigeru Miyamoto first developed the Mario Video games for nintendo, graphics technology had a lot of limitations. Due to this, Miyamoto wanted to avoid drawing Mario’s hair . He was worried about having to animate the hair movements when Mario aka Jumpman jumped. To overcome this, he put a cap on Mario and covered the hair. The cap quickly became a unique aspect of Mario’s costume.
Mario Hat Logo
A plumber with a logo? Well this is one famous plumber. After all, Mario is the most popular video game character. More popular, apparently, than Mickey Mouse. Mario’s hat features a Large Red “M” for Mario as his logo. Of course, M also stands for Mushroom, Mario’s favourite food!
Super Mario Hat
Mario started as a 2d character, and, as graphics technology on nintendo improved, he soon became a 3d character, by the time Super Mario was released. A Super Mario costume has six very simple elements.
1. Super Mario hat
2. Red long sleeved shirt.
3. Gloves
4. Boots
5. Blue overalls
6. Mustache
Throw those together and you get a mario costume.
Mario’s hat can turn many colors, depending on which power-up he has. For example, if he has the Fire Flower power-up, his cap will turn white, and if he has an Ice Flower power-up, his hat will turn light blue, and so on. The players can buy and wear Mario’s Cap in Animal Crossing: Wild World and Animal Crossing: City Folk.
Club Nintendo Mario Hat
In 2009, Platinum Club members of Club Nintendo got a chance to own a free Super Mario hat. The hat even came with an Instruction Manual .

Luigi Hat
Luigi’s hat is green with a green “L” emblem. Luigi’s hat was meant to contradict Mario’s red cap since green is the negative color of red. Luigi’s Cap color, green, when inverted turns into Waluigi’s Cap color, purple. Baby Luigi’s cap is on-purposely made larger, so it appears it was to big to wear when he was a baby. The white Luma steals Luigi’s hat at the end of Super Mario Galaxy 2. The same thing happens with Mario Hat.
